People complaining about work-life balance being hard? Hah, they're just too weak to quit all that "life" stuff!

I once worked at a company where there was a poster on a wall that said "Finish the project. We'll buy you a new family".

Given that many of the other posters were equally sarcastic, everyone in my team assumed that it was just a another joke. That was until one of the team complained about not having seen his kids in over week because of the crazy hours on the current project, only to have the department head brush him off by telling him that was nothing, he hadn't seen *his* kids in almost four months.

Yeah, that's nothing to be bragging about.

And then there was the company where one member worked 16-18 hour days for 37 days straight, and then he took a Saturday "off" to go to his sick father-in-law's birthday. And when I say sick, I mean dying. It turned out to be his father-in-law's last birthday.

He was given a poor review for "not being a team player" because he considered a dying family member to be a higher priority than putting in 38 straight days.

And then people ask me why I had such a "mercenary" attitude about work.

That's just vile. And yes, you basically have to give them sh*t on every opportunity. These people know no bounds and have no limits.
