Bob wants to keep his job

As the saying goes, product obscurity is job security.

I once had a team lead openly admit that he didn't document his needlessly complex and abstract design was "to protect myself" from being laid off.

He discovered, as many have, that such job security is also job immobility. No, we can't promote you, you're the only one who understands the XYZ product, so you're staying where you are. Forever.

But if I teach nobody, when do I get to go on vacation?

You have to get the job before you can complain about the job. That’s what lying is for.

That's a recipe for having no friends (and getting bad peer feedback at review time), Bob. 👿
