Just give them a wildly inflated estimate.

When I worked as a programmer, I'd usually follow Scotty's Algorithm: estimate how long it would take if everything went well then multiply by 3. Of course, often programming does *not* go well, but if I completed the task in 1/3 the estimate, my boss would be impressed :-)

oh no, i wasn't correcting you, the factor is absolutely your personal variable. i just love the lines from the movie, always made me laugh. 😄
