I don’t like paying my bills, but considering the alternative… 🤷‍♂️

I really enjoy your series. It’s a great insight and perspective of current course challenges. Thank you.

At one of these motivational "why did you choose to work here/what motivates you to come to work" surveys, the most common answer was "I need the money".

That's not acceptable, HR said. That's a reason to get A job, but that's not why you picked THIS job. The survey wanted to know why you picked THIS job.

The survey went out a second time, and the answers were once again "I need the money".

Don't say that, HR said. There has to be a better reason. They called a meeting with employees to discuss it.

In the meeting, they asked one employee directly why he chose that company, and to not just say that he needed the money.

He thought for a second, and said "I have a mortgage I have to pay".

HR did not like these answers.

"You make it sound like you'd accept any job, like there's nothing special about our company".

"Yeah, pretty much", he said, to the room nodding in agreement.

HR cancelled plans to make the survey an annual one.

Lots of “quit your job, do what you love” advice here on Substack. I like having food and shelter and clothing so imma keep working.
