A co-worker quit, and gave three weeks notice, instead of the required two weeks. During those three weeks, she had a family emergency and had to take a day off to deal with it. The PM told the team that "she knows the project is a crisis state. this is a critical time", and that if she took the day off, she was burning bridges and couldn't come back.
Yes, he was criticizing a person who'd already given notice (more than required) for prioritizing family over a company that she was already leaving.
Several team members had already received offers from a competitor that had moved into town. They'd been thinking them over, sitting on the fence, deciding whether or not to take them, or if they wanted to stay at the company. After seeing the PM lambast our soon to be ex-team member, a few decided to take the offers.
The PM was completely shocked by this. The rest of the team, not so much.
One thing I noticed over the years is that companies that say "if you leave, you won't be allowed to come back" are rarely if ever companies you'd want to return to anyway.
I left my toxic workplace this year and burned the bridge and the ashes.
This is going to be a tough call. 🤔 But I don’t have to decide for… Counts on fingers and toes. Just kidding. 😈 We all know I will choose violence. 🔥
