I learned, the hard way, that if you work long hours the bosses will believe you can't get your work done in the allotted time. Because they have NO IDEA what you're doing, or what you're producing. They Don't Care.
They just figure you can't do it in eight hours.
Notice that whenever there is a layoff, the people working long hours (regardless of hourly or salary) are Always the ones let go?
Once I realized that, I never worked past 5. Was out the door and gone.
