That was practically the mission statement of one company I worked at.

Over a period of about 15 years, they had no less than 10 separate re-engineering efforts. That's one every 18 months, on average. They analyzed, and analyzed, and analyzed, but never actually *did* anything.

In one kickoff meeting, one bored engineer asked the presenter why anyone should care, given that he'd already seen three failed re-engineering efforts so far. The presenter's response was that "we don't plan to fail". Which, by inference, means that the previous times, they *had* intended to fail...

When they were in the planning stages of another one of these, they solicited names from the staff. My submission of "HUBRIS" was not well received.

So far as I can tell, most "data-driven" companies implement a four step plan with that data:

#1. Don't plan to fail.

#2. TBD

#3. TBD

#4. PROFIT
