At one company I worked at, the progression went:
1. You absolutely must make the deadlines, no excuse
2. Working from home required written permission, two weeks in advance
3. Management introduced open office for engineering staff (marketing, legal, HR all exempt)
4. What do you mean, the entire engineering staff is out with the flu? All of them?
To quote a friend's roommate, "It's almost as if cause and effect are related"
So freaking accurate. Your job will replace you in a day. Don’t kill yourself for any job.
